Glen Waverley is a place that has many Asian food restaurants, typically Malaysian food. Some may say that this place is like a Malaysian town. To me, I’m not sure about that but surely very Asian. You will feel more of being in Asian country than in Australia.
For Sarawakian, you may want to stop by this place where they serve Sarawak hometown food and also some dishes more famous from other parts of Malaysia. This is closest to home when you’re far from home. The owner is from Sibu, Sarawak.
Also, a specialty of this shop is their noodles are handmade here. So the noodles may not be the same as how it is back home but they are good as well.
A typical food that most people will try when in Kuching. It doesn’t come with the curly Kolo Mee you have in Kuching but their handmade noodle, topped with minced pork, BBQ pork, vegetables, shallots and spring onions, mixed with sauces and pork oil. The taste is rather close to how it is back home. It’s rather good when source ingredients here are different from home.
If you order Kolo Mee + Special soup, it comes with a rather big bowl of soup with pork ball, pork stomach, vegetables and spring onions, at a special deal of A$12.00 for regular and A$14.00 for large.
Kampua (BBQ Pork Noodle) (A$8.50 Regular, A$10.00 Large)
It’s the first time I hearing this name and it’s recommended by a Sarawakian friend being a Foo Chow dish. It serves with handmade noodle, BBQ pork, spring onions and shallots, mixed with sauces and pork oil. I do not know how it originally taste back home but to me it tasted rather similar to Kolo Mee, yet still good.
Another typical-to-order dish in Kuching, the Sarawak Laksa. I was told that their laksa paste is from Sarawak. So, I had to try it. This time it’s not handmade noodle but meehoon similar to what we have back home, with chicken pieces, sliced fish cake, shrimps, beancurd puff, egg slices and bean sprout. Taste? Very close to home but I still feel something missing. I’m not sure whether it’s the taste of dried shrimps. Have a try!
Another Foochow dish I have not tried before. Fried handmade noodle cook in soya sauce soup together with pork slices, sliced fish cake and vegetables. It’s not a surprising taste as it’s soya sauce soup which tasted similar to many stew noodle in soya sauce but a little dryer than this. The fried noodle is rather nice though.
