Teng Wun Bakery & Confectionery, Kuala Kubu Bharu

When you’re at Kuala Kubu Bharu or even just pass-by, drop-by this bakery shop. It has delicious Durian cake and Kaya puff. The other pastries that they also sell are butter sponge cake, egg battered cake, egg tart, peanut cake, kaya roll, and wedding biscuits.

We came for the Durian cake and Kaya puff.

Durian cake is cream and flower decorated covered over sliced sponge cake with durian paste. The durian taste is so pungent and tasty (especially for durian lover, like me). You will need to pre-order in advance as you can’t get any if you walk in. It comes in 2 sizes, 0.5kg for RM28 and 1kg for RM56.

Kaya puff has a crunchy and fragrant skin over a nice kaya. Careful with the flakes from the skin. It would be best taken warm. It’s RM1.20 per piece.

Butter sponge cake does not have a heavy buttery taste that you can get from those condensed butter cake. This is a soft sponge cake with that you can add with jam or any other toppings you like. I love the burned top that gives a nice smell to it. It’s RM9.00 for a cake.

Sam Hing Restaurant, Serendah

We stopped by Serendah for breakfast before heading to Kuala Kubu Bharu. This plain looking shop along the busy road of the Serendah town area, sells some delicious noodles.

Tan Ngan Lo Herbal Tea 单眼佬凉茶
I was welcomed surprisingly with this herbal tea in glass bottles. It is a rare view to see drinks selling in tall glass bottles. I love it! It is served chilled in bottles or your can request for hot ones.

Wan Tan Soup 云吞汤
It’s a nice clear soup with boiled and fried wanton, and vegetables. Simple, yet delicious. The soup doesn’t taste oily nor too pepper-ish.

Fried Wan Tan Mee (Signature noodle) 福建面 细面 (招牌面)
The english name does not represent fully what I expected. It’s fried hokkien-style noodle using noodle that used to make wanton noodle dish. They are handmade noodle. To me, the noodle tasted like thin pan mee noodle. It’s fried with squid, pork and vegetables. It’s strong hokkien mee flavour keeps me wanting more, especially when I’m hungry.

They also sell other noodles such as fried mee hoon, loh mee, cantonese fried noodle, etc. Each dish comes in 3 sizes – Small at RM5.50, Medium RM11.00, and Big for RM15.00.

Loving Heart Vegetarian Restaurant, Bandar Mahkota Cheras

There are many vegetarian restaurants around Bandar Mahkota Cheras. This time let’s try this one!

This shop is located opposite Aeon, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, with a green decoration inside the shop presenting a green living environment. It’s a colour comfortable to the eyes.

Veggie Bak Kut Tea (RM11.00)
A warm herbal soup that keeps you warm especially during rainy days. The bak kut teh soup is cooked with beancurd slices, mushrooms, toupok, and vegetarian pork. The vegetarian pork has a nice chew to it, a little like the real pork. The soup is also accompanied by a plate of lettuce and slices of you tiao and a bowl of rice.

Chuk San Wan Yee Soup 竹生云耳汤 (RM12.00)
The main ingredient of this soup is black fungus, together with many other ingredients such as carrots, wolfberries, and vegetarian fishball. A hot and filling soup to the tummy.

Hokkien fried hakka noodle (RM8.50)

I, sometimes, have the craving of some “black” noodle. This dish met satisfied my cravings. Hakka noodle stir-fried with alot of vegetables such as carrot, Chinese cabbage, mushroom, vegetarian char siew, and beancurd slices. A delicious dish.

Padi House, Bandar Mahkota Cheras

A recent new restaurant open at Bandar Mahkota Cheras. Had my first try, although they already have many outlets around such as Setia Walk, Sri Petaling, and Putrajaya.

“Padi” means rice in Malay which gave me the first thought that they should be selling local cuisine. To my surprise they even sell pasta, western, cakes and cookies.

It is a corner shop along with Pappa Rich and next to Nando’s but it’s easily noticeable. It has ample parking space in the front and side of the shop as this area is rather new.

A 2 level shop renovated to a comfortable ambience for gatherings, family meals or just chill our for some coffee and desserts. It is was a busy Saturday on the day we went but managed to get a table.

What most attracted me was the various cakes presented at the chiller near the entrance. Some of the choices are Vanilla cheesecake, Oreo cheesecake, Macadamia cheesecake, Choc moist and many more. They sell in mini square or round cake, slices from a whole and whole cake.

Now, to the food…

Cheese baked vegetarian pasta (RM13.90)
Spaghetti cooked with mushroom, long bean, carrot, cauliflower topped with cheese. I love the tomato based sauce that is quite concentrated but salty. It tasted little like the Prego brand traditional Italian tomato sauce. I’m not sure though how Padi made or what brand they use for the sauce.

Caesar Salad (RM9.50)
A typical caesar salad of lettuce, egg, croutons, cheese flakes with salad dressing. Fresh and crunchy lettuce and croutons but don’t leave the croutons too long, it goes soft.

Macadamia Cheese (RM11.50)
A original cheesecake topped with macadamia nuts and glaze. The combination is delicious. If you happily finish the macadamia first, you will feel that the cheesecake is just normal and plain. The cheesecake is not too sweet for my liking.
