What is Kampung “Adidas”? A new “Adidas” shoe model? Nope, it’s not. It’s rubber shoes made in Malaysia.
“Kampung” means village in Malay. Many villagers and now, many people who hike in Malaysia knows or wears this. Why “Adidas”? I was told that the shoe design used to have 3 lines like Adidas. Hence, the combination of Kampung “Adidas”.
Nowadays, it does not only sells the most convenient design (just slip-on) like the one shown in the photo above but there are other designs with shoelace and knobs on the soles, and more feminine design for woman.
This shoe is suitable for hiking, especially going through streams or muddy terrains. You won’t need to worry about the soggy feeling of your sneakers nor your sneakers will smell after a long walk nor headache of cleaning your sneakers from wet or dried mud. Just a rinse and wipe or let dry and you are good to go again. It’s sole grip on land and rocks is good, then especially when it’s new. After getting used to it, you will have more confidence stepping on wet rocks around streams (except those smooth or algae covered rocks, you will still need to becareful or avoid).
Here is where I got my pair at Serendah, a stop-by for breakfast before heading to Sungai Chilling, Kuala Kubu Bharu. It is priced at RM8.50 per pair but our bulk purchase got us RM0.50 discount each.
